Panama, Egypt sign agreement for agriculture

According to the memorandum of understanding signed on Monday between the Minister of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Jorge Arango, and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Panama, Ahmed Taha, over the next five years, Panamanian professionals from agriculture and research related areas will receive training scholarships offered by the Government of Egypt, so that they can be trained in the development of extensive agriculture.

Before being signed, the agreement yielded results, as the first extensionist of the MIDA recently travelled to Egypt to receive training and education in the field for three months.

The sectors selected for training as a priority for cooperation include rice, tropical fruit plants, cashew nuts, rubber, agricultural machinery, fishing and other sectors related to agriculture, which were mutually agreed on.

The agreement also includes the exchange of delegations of experts, scientists and technicians, as well as establishing a research system for the exchange of crop seeds and animal breeds, complying with the plant and animal health laws of the country, among others.

Both Egypt and Panama will be subject to the availability of funds and must pay the costs arising from the implementation of the memorandum, based on the laws and regulations in their own countries.

The agreement will be valid for five years, which will benefit the Panamanian extensionists in several areas, especially in research, since Egypt is characterized by its extensive development in this field.
