Carrefour launches their Quality Line coeur de boeuf tomatoes

The first ‘coeur de boeuf’ tomatoes from Carrefour’s new Quality Line are now available in 1,200 Carrefour Market hyper and supermarkets. This new line was announced in May and is a partnership with the cooperative Rougeline (in the Lot-et-Garonne). Five producers from Rougeline are expected to produce about 250 tons of tomatoes (covered) without using pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.

Carrefour sells 70,000 tons of tomatoes annually, “it is one of the most sold fruits” explains Mathieu Lovery, Director of fruit and vegetable offers and sourcing for the company.

These coeur de boeuf tomatoes are presented as a pack of 3 weighing at least 600 grams and have a €2.50 to €2.95 RRP.

Carrefour’s Quality Line has been around since the start of the 90’s with almost 20,000 producers involved and it represents 20% of the volume of fresh produce. Carrefour have developed 90 Quality Line products, of which 15 or so are in the fruit and vegetable sector. In 2014, products from the line saw volumes increase by 20%.
