Ireland: First Sicilian grapes at Smyth's

On Monday morning Smyth's food group, Ireland, took delivery of the first of this season's Sicilian grapes from Mazzarone.

The supply will last into November, all going well. Christopher Graham from Smyth's said, "The grapes look great but are not at their fullest flavour as one would expect for the first of the season but it is a promising start for the Italian/Sicilian season as the Dublin Market is seeing mostly Egyptian produce of greatly varied quality and flavour."

Graham hopes to import around 120 pallets throughout the season.

The grapes are selling at around 3.15 per kilo, which is competitive for new season grapes and only slightly higher than the current Egyptian offerings.
