Sorter introduces new packing robot

Sorter, a large Polish-based supplier of machines for unloading, grading and fruit packing in Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, has started producing robots capable of packing a variety of fruits and vegetables. Marketing Manager Edgar Klusa affirms that “PRO Packing Robot is a multi-purpose robot designed to fill cartons with fruit or vegetables or packages with processed food, for example with biscuits, etc.”

The robot is equipped with a camera, which allows it to distinguish different products on a conveyor. “With the use of an exchangeable gripping device, the robot can select any chosen product from the conveyor and set it aside in the designated place in the carton,” explains Mr Klusa.

“The robot’s workstation consists of a conveyor for cartons and another for the fruit itself before it is packed. Once the fruit packing process has finished, the carton is automatically replaced with an empty one and the full carton is removed.”

Packing Robot is described as a good alternative solution to repetitive and expensive human labour for the packing of fruits, vegetables and processed products.

“The latest type of machine is the next major step forward for Sorter, as it will enable us to enter new markets, especially in Europe as well as South America, where there are many citrus fruits growers,” concludes Mr Klusa.
