Would you work a whole day for a kilo of potatoes?

It is a well-known fact that the remuneration of workers varies greatly from country to country; while in Bulgaria the minimum wage is of approximately 160 Euro per month, in Australia it exceeds 2,094 Euro.

In the same way that incomes change depending on the territory, so does the cost of goods and services, so it is sometimes difficult to discern the real purchasing power of consumers.

In the Netherlands, a country with one of the highest minimum wages in Europe, the money earned during a working day will allow you to buy a low-end smartphone; in Argentina, it will be possible to buy 15 packs of Marlboro Box 20, and in Venezuela it will only be enough for one kilo of potatoes.

And incredibly, the Venezuela's minimum wage is one of the highest in the region.

"Currently, the working day is estimated at 224.89 bolivars (32 Euro), but the price of a kilo of Creole potatoes amounts to 229 bolivars," reported the local newspaper El CarabobeƱo.

In less than nine days, the price of potatoes has increased by 27.78%, and since last week, some sellers reported buying a kilo of potatoes from producers for 180 bolivars.

But the price of potatoes is just one example that serves to illustrate the hyperinflation the country is suffering and which has drastically reduced the purchasing power of consumers, with many of them concerned about not being able to acquire basic food products and wondering if it's worth working all day just for a kilo of potatoes.
