Walloon supermarket D'ici

Pineapples from Costa Rica, tomatoes from Spain, pears from Italy... the Walloon supermarket chain D'ici stopped purchasing these and its range consists exclusively of local products. The supermarket south of Namur opened in 2013 with the name "D'ici, ma région régale me", or "Local, I enjoy my region." This store promotes the purchase of local foods. The products sold are as local as possible, from Belgian and especially Walloon companies.

Whenever possible, the fruits and vegetables on the shelves are seasonal products; however, a limited range of imported products is allowed in the off-season to ensure diversity; products that have become indispensable for our consumption, such as tea or rice, are also sold, even though these come from far away.

The range of products offered in the supermarket "D'ici" is quite large, since about 150 producers help fill the store shelves. To strengthen cooperation with them, "D'ici" established an agricultural cooperative to which producers belong as members. Meetings with them are arranged and all information about the producers and the origin of the products is made available.

In time, "D'ici" aims to expand its project to further support the promotion, marketing, distribution and processing of local food products.
