German Farmers' Day 2015 in Erfurt

Debate on the future and direction of the agriculture

This year the German Farmers' Day will take place in Erfurt on 24 and 25 June 2015. More than 600 delegates of 18 national farmers' organisations and numerous guests and speakers from politics, agriculture, research and social groups are expected in the capital of the federal state Thuringia. The theme "Shaping Change - German Farmers' Day 2015" is all about the opinions and standpoints in agriculture, about its future development and the demands on politics and society. This takes its a part during the general meeting of the Farmers' Day of the German Farmers' Association (DBV) where a new vice-president will be elected.

At the beginning of the German Farmers' Day DBV President Joachim Rukwied will give a keynote speech about the prospects of German agriculture and the position of the profession. "Farmers are in the middle of society. We need to do more than in the past in order to secure this position. We have achieved a lot and established high standards, but these are more often questioned. In these times of change clear positions are needed!" states Rukwied in the invitation to the Farmers' Day.

A discussion of the delegates should lead to an "Erfurt Declaration" and a panel of representatives of the parliamentary groups will discuss the future agricultural policies at the Farmers' Day. The Federal Agriculture Minister Christian Schmidt and Bodo Ramelow Minister President of Thuringia are guests and will address the delegates. A price will be awarded to the best training company of 2015 and the winner of this year's professional farmers competition will be honoured, these events set an example for the development of a successful, competitive German agriculture.
