300,000 Euro damage

Fruit transport crashes on the A2

A truck loaded with fruit and vegetables had an accident Sunday night on the A2 near Braunschweig.

Around 11 p.m. the vehicle apparently lost a tire, whereupon the 23 year old driver lost control of the semi-trailer, as disclosed by the police. The truck went off the road to the right, broke through a noise protection wall, and came to a stop partially hanging over the escarpment. The truck was destroyed in the process – fruit and vegetables spread across the free way. Furthermore, around 500 litres of diesel seeped into the ground. The driver and his 47 year old co-driver were injured and brought to hospital. In the direction of Berlin, the A2 was blocked for several hours. Property damage amounted to 300,000 Euro.
