Potato sales stable

Austria: record apple sales in March

In Austria, a record amount of apples were sold in March. This was mentioned in the 3rd edition of the fruits and vegetables market report of the AgrarMarkt Austria (AMA). The sales volume reached the remarkable volume of 22,531 metric tonnes by the 1 of April 2015. This corresponds with increased sales of 22.6 percent over the previous month. The stock has approached the previous year's level by nearly 500 metric tonnes. At the moment there are still around 77,125 tonnes of apples stored in Austria.

Careful sales of Golden Delicious
The varieties Breaburn, Jonagold red and Elstar sold above average. The variety Breaburn was with about 55 percent at the top of the sold varieties. Just like the varieties Idared and Gala, the stocks of the previous year could be even partially undershot. Furthermore the sales of the Golden Delicious lagged, only 13.5 percent of the stock (5,500 tonnes) was sold. The level of the previous year is exceeded by slightly more than 13,000 metric tons. At the moment around 35,643 tonnes of Golden Delicious apples are stored in Austria.

Stable sales

The potato market in Austria is unchanged. The sales of the potato remained stable, while demand has remained at a constant unchanged level. Since the there is sufficient quantity of stock, the prices remained stabled. Only the export situation remains critical as the current export business of potatoes stagnates at a low level.

Finished carrot marketing
There are less Austrian onions available. Nevertheless, the demand remains high. Prices rose in both domestic as well as export products. At the end of the marketing period of carrots a price increase was pushed through, which significantly exceeded the level of the previous year.

Start of the asparagus season in Austria

The asparagus sales have started in Austria just as in Germany. In early April the first asparagus was harvested in the Austrian Marchfeld. Because of the low temperatures the first harvest was rather small. Early in the season the prices for white or green asparagus were between 7.00 to 7.50 Euro per kilo.
