Ahern and Enza Zaden:

Successful cucumber area Baja, Mexico

Close cooperation between Enza Zaden and business partner Ahern International has lead to some promising new cucumber varieties in the Baja region, Mexico. These varieties were presented during a combined tour in this region. During this tour Enza Zaden and Ahern visited several key growers in the area.

Latest variety: Tirano

One of the promising new varieties is Tirano. The best feature of this new hybrid is the smooth skin and high yields. “This new variety is exactly what the growers asked for. We are confident that Tirano and the new varieties being trailed here in Baja will help us preserve and grow our presence in the Baja´s market,” spoke Carlos Sanchez, Sales Representative Bajas at Ahern International.

Largest seed supplier

Baja is the second largest area in Mexico for cucumber acreage and by far the most important for the spring and summer crops. The region has over 1,000 hectares of protected agriculture grown with cucumbers each year. Enza Zaden is proudly the largest seed supplier in this area.

Close co-operation

“That we have this position is accomplished by close co-operation with our business partners at Ahern. Along with us, Ahern is in close contact with the growers, the packers/shippers and just about anyone in the supply chain to get to the retail and the end consumer,” says Edgard Lopez, Sales Representative Enza Zaden at Bajas.
