Agrico: large division on the world seeding market

Potato cooperation Agrico announced an average indication price of € 23.00 per 100 kilo to its members, for seeds for harvest 2014. The 2014/2015 sales season was characterised by a large division in the world seeding market. The export overseas went well, resulting in export figures that were comparable to the record season 2013/2014. The sales on the European market on the other hand, were disappointing due to the influence of a historically bad consumption market.

Kilo yield per hectare were comparable to the harvest of 2013/2014, but the percentage of coarse was lower. This resulted in a yield in seeding size with was clearly higher than the previous year. As of harvest 2012/2013 Agrico present a 28/up price and with it a price that counts for all supplied tonnes. An average price over specific sizes would come out considerable higher, but only count for part of the harvest.

Based on the current estimates the average pay out price for harvest 2014/2015 for all sizes (28/up) will be € 23.00 per 100 kilo. This price concerns class S to A including the average premium, loose, off farm, autumn supply and excluding all fees and VAT. The named prices includes growers license. For monopoly varieties an average of € 1.50 per 100 kilo will be held back for licensing.

During the product group meetings in June and July Agrico will explain the definitive pay out prices to its members. Agrico director Jan van Hoogen looks back at the season with mixed feelings. "The division in the market was huge. The export overseas was good, both in volume and prices. The market in Europe was very calm and hesitant. The unrest in Ukraine and the financial and political problems in Russia did not contribute to our sales in these countries. Looking ahead, there will clearly be more consumption than seeding in Europe. The consumption area in Europe looks like it will only go down slightly. The seeding area will increase in the Netherlands, partially due to the good pay outs in recent years. In July we will better be able to estimate was harvest 2015 will bring us."
