Peru: New fruit processing plant in Lambayeque

A modern fresh fruit processing plant was installed in the district of Jayanca, Lambayeque. The plant required an investment of S/. 6,000,000 and will process up to 240 tons of fruit per day.

The new plant is property of the Proserla SAC Company and occupies an area of 12,000 m2. Its opening generated great expectations among the inhabitants of the districts of Jayanca, Pacora, Íllimo, Motupe and Olmos.

Mario Mustafa Aguinaga, chairman of Proserla, stated that the plant in Jayanca would process the production of the 150 acres of red globe and green seedless grape varieties, the harvest of 110 hectares of mango kent and the production of 70 acres of Hass avocado. Another 6 million soles has been invested to help the land produce.

He added that the new facility would also provide the packing and cold storage services for producers from the Jayanca district and close estates.

There are currently five similar facilities in that district from other exporting companies engaged in processing fruit such as banana, mango, grapes and avocado.

Last February, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, said Peru had become a leading fruit and vegetable exporting country worldwide.
