“Russia over worst of crisis”

The Russian economy will start growing again within two years, president Putin said yesterday during his annual TV show in which he answers questions from the people for hours. “Experts believe the worst of the crisis is over for us,” the president said. Since the beginning of this year, the rouble has seen the biggest increase in value of any currency in the world, although there was of course the significant devaluation in December last year. The TV show editorial team had already received 2486 million questions when the show started.



About the boycott of agricultural products, Putin said: “The Russian market was too saturated for domestic production, especially after we became a member of the WTO. Now we can set things straight.” He also pointed to the support measures for agriculture again, and to the importance of becoming self-sufficient. “Would we have imposed these counter sanctions without the Western sanctions? The answer is no.”

EU seeks myth busters
The European Union has posted a vacancy for myth busters, who have to combat the Russian propaganda machine. The job description is correcting and fact checking wrong information and myths. The team of myth busters specifically focuses on statements in Russian media.

Apples intercepted at large inspection
During a large-scale inspection for drugs an illegal immigrants in Russian Perm, the authorities also confiscated 53 boxes of apples. The fruit was found in a warehouse, but the paperwork for the product was missing.

Prices Ukraine increase further
The prices for fresh produce in Ukraine increased by 16.5% last week, APK-Inform reports. On average, the prices increased by 25.9% over the past two weeks. The biggest price increase is borne by greenhouse vegetables, the price of which increased by a third.

Bulgarian growers want export to Crimea
According to the Ministry of Industrial Policy in Crimea, Bulgarian growers are interested in exported to the peninsula that was annexed by Russia. Both parties are seeing the importance of cooperation. Bulgaria reportedly wants to supply products including fruit, vegetables and cheese to Crimea.
