Fewer mangoes expected in coming weeks

"The mango market has been doing well for a while now. Since last year, the market has been rather stable with a few spikes," says Eryvan Pires of Fruitmarket. "Peru had a good season in terms of quality and price. Volumes were rather controlled, and the amount of mangoes shipped hasn't been excessive. At the moment, prices for Peruvian regular sizes are around 7 to 8 Euro."

"At the moment, the Peruvian mangoes are coming from the Casma region, and the volumes are very low. I can say that the season is as good as over. The quality from Casma was a bit less this season compared to the mangoes from San Lorenzo Valley."

Lower numbers came in from Peru, although Brazil has shipped 20% more on average than last year, since the beginning of this year. These are mainly the Tommy's, but also the fibreless ones like Keith and Palmer. For Brazil, the prices have also been good so far. For some sizes it was a bit more difficult due to the increased supplies, but in general it's been going well."

Lower supply in coming weeks
In the coming weeks, the Peruvian season will come to an end. "Lower supplies are expected from Brazil, because they pay a lot on the domestic market. Western Africa is also getting there, but they are very concerned about the fruit fly," Eryvan concludes.
