Mexico: The price of tomatoes decreases

In the week between April 6 and April 10, the prices of the basic food products had mixed results and the tomato prices had the biggest drop. 

In the referenced week, the price of a kilo of tomatoes in Guadalajara, Jalisco, went from $34 to $19 pesos, and from $35 to $20 pesos in Tijuana, Baja California.

According to the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) the price of kilo of Hass avocado in the commercial establishments in the country reached a maximum of $34.63 pesos.

In addition, the price of a two-kilogram bag of sugar amounted to $25.57 pesos, the kilogram of saladette tomato was sold at $16.68 pesos, while lemons and onions were marketed at $15.24 and $15.08 pesos, respectively.

Prices in the markets of Tijuana were as follows: the carton of 32 eggs was offered for a maximum of $75 pesos, the kilogram of avocado was sold for up to $47 pesos, the kilo of lemons at 28 pesos, saladette tomato was offered at $20 pesos, sugar at $16 sugar, and onions at $15 pesos.

Meanwhile, in the Central Wholesales Market of the city of Mexico, the avocado was sold for up to 28 pesos per kg, the tomatoes for $15, lemon for $11, sugar for $9 pesos and onions for $6 pesos.

In the Central market of Leon, Guanajuato, a kilo of eggs was marketed for $28 pesos, tomato $18, citrus and the sweetener at $11 pesos, in both cases, and onions at $8 pesos.

In Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, the eggs and avocados reached $35 and $32 pesos per kilo, respectively while tomatoes and lemons were offered at $15 pesos per kilogram, and onions and sugar were sold for $12 pesos per kilo.

The avocado was sold for up to $35 pesos in the public markets of Mérida, Yucatán, the eggs for $25, tomatoes for $11, sugar for $10, and onions and lemons for $9 pesos per kilogram.

The highest price of a kilogram of eggs was of $28 pesos in the municipal markets in Puebla, while avocados were sold for $19, tomatoes for $10, sweetener for $8.50, citrus for $6 pesos, and a kilo of onion for $5 pesos.

Finally, the prices in the commercial establishments in Guadalajara, Jalisco, were as follows: the eggs were offered for $30 pesos, avocados for $19 pesos per kilogram, tomatoes for $12 pesos, lemons $10, sweeteners were marketed for a maximum of $10 pesos, and onions for $6 pesos.
