Event on 16th of April

Amcor Produce shows benefits innovative packaging

The most decisive factor for a consumer considering a purchase is the quality of the produce inside. On-shelf appeal can be enhanced by prolonging a product's shelf life. Amcor, a manufacturer of packaging for the fresh produce industry, will hold an event next week to make the case that if fresh produce sellers want to increase sales, they should focus on packaging. “If we can extend the shelf life of a product, we increase the likelihood of a consumer making a purchase,” said James Beresford-Wylie of Amcor.

The customer event will take place on April 16 in Tewkesbury. James Beresford-Wylie and his colleagues will go through innovations in packaging and the benefits of those innovations including case studies that highlight the positive impact packaging can have on one's bottom line. Paul Jenkins of The PackHub will also present latest packaging trends.

“What you've seen in this difficult economic market has been a focus on taking out costs as much as possible,” said James Beresford-Wylie. “But lately customers have started looking beyond packaging cost out and focusing on total cost. If you spend more on packaging but save even more thanks to waste reduction in the supply chain, then your total costs will go down. We have developed a tool that allows us to work with customers to calculate how much money is saved throughout the supply chain with our tailored permeability packaging, P-Plus(R).

In addition to extending shelf life, new techniques allowing for high definition printing significantly enhance brand differentiation and encourage consumers to buy. "By increasing flexibility and shortening lead-times, these advances in printing technology can potentially help to reduce total costs while actually creating a better image".

“Ultimately, we're all trying to give the end user a good experience,” said Beresford-Wylie. “Because if the quality is not the best, then consumers are not going to make repeat purchases.”
