Here's what Germans really think of organic food

It's a widespread idea: organic food is healthier than ordinary food. The Germans don't quite believe this though. A majority of them thinks organic food is not at all healthier. That's the outcome of a recent survey held by market research company Emnid, on behalf of German newspaper 'Bild'.

Of those interviewed, 53 percent indicated they believe organic food isn't better than food without the bio label. Only 43 percent believes this to be the case. Among women, acceptance of organic food is bigger (47 percent) than among men (40 percent).

Nevertheless, Germans are spending more and more money on organic food. In the past year, German households spent 4.8% more on organic food, nearly 8 billion Euro. That makes Germany the second largest market for organic food in the world, behind the US.
