NAO: More potatoes to overseas destinations

The total export figure for consumption potatoes until February is, at 521,000 tonnes, over 15,000 tonnes more than last year's export in the same period, the export figures from the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO) show. The slightly higher export of potatoes is mainly on account of overseas destinations.

To Africa, 111,000 tonnes of potatoes were sold until February, nearly 38,000 tonnes more than the 2013 harvest. About half of the potatoes that are shipped to Africa, are destined for Senegal.

Export Asia
America has bought nearly 32,000 tonnes of the 2014 harvest, 9,000 more than last year. Export to Asia more than doubled, to just below 46,000 tonnes. Within Europe, all in all around 56,000 tonnes fewer potatoes were sold from the Netherlands before March 1. Belgium in particular bought a lot fewer potatoes, with a total of 176,000 tonnes this year, compared to 205,000 tonnes after the 2013 harvest.
