Tasmanian onions available until July

Tony Abbott visits Tasman shipping agent Van der Lans International

Mid-March, the Australian prime minister visited a Van der Lans International shipping agent, Wynyon, eating an unpeeled raw Tasmanian onion as if it were an apple, causing a rage in Australia. The photo below was taken at Charlton Farm. Tony Abbott is signing the guestbook. In the background, a big bag is loaded with destination Netherlands.

Available from March until July
For many years, Van der Lans International has received Tasmanian onions from shipping agent Wynyon. These onions are included in a product range of the upper segment of supermarkets. The Tasmanian onions of Van der Lans are available from March until July. In general, onions have a great deal of health benefits. Onions from Tasmania are said to contain 5 to 10 times the amount of quercetin (antioxidant) compared to the levels in Europe, China or the US. Because of the increased amount of sun in Tasmania, the levels of this antioxidant are believed to be higher.
