Chile: Drought in the south will affect price of fruit and veg
The traders at the Punto de Temuco Fair criticized the delivery of the 100,000 pesos bond to small farmers by Indap ensuring that this amount wouldn't alleviate the losses caused by the drought and that the products' prices would rise.
It's worth noting that the drought has affected the producers the most, as they have lost some of their crops, which has generated millions in debts.
The animals don't have anything to drink or eat because of the water shortage and much of the cattle in the South of Chile has died, which will cause an increase in the price of meat and milk.
This shortage also affects the production of vegetables and legumes, which is reflected in the rise in prices of vegetables like lettuce, cilantro, lemons, and avocado, among others.
Moreover, traders have stated that product prices will continue to increase because of the drought and that they will reach double their value in coming weeks.
