Stable prices for traditional shallots from Brittany

“Though business for the last month has been quiet, prices have been stable,” said Pierre Batardiere of Daniel Cadiou. “We still get some nice quality from storage in silos, though we have to be cautious on the selection of batches.” The vagaries of the weather prompt growers to select products carefully, but Batardiere said they're considering switching to refrigerated storage by the beginning of April in order to keep guaranteeing a consistent product.

Though seed shallots are plentiful in Europe, the taste and quality of traditional shallots has loyal followers. That steady demand has made for a stable market for traditional shallots from the Brittany region in France. That difference, and the service Daniel Cadiou offers is what makes them stand out, noted Batardiere.

“The relationship with the growers committed in a quality process with Daniel Cadiou is the basis of our strength,” said Batardiere. “The 12- month availability, the wide range of packaging options and our reactivity and commitment towards our customers also mark a difference.”
