Switzerland: apple and pear stocks in late February

At the end of February 2015, the amount of stored apples in Switzerland was 38,887 tonnes, Swiss website swissfruit.ch reports. That's 1,200 tonnes more than in February 2014, and 1,063 tonnes more than in February 2013. With 7,896 tonnes, the sold amount of stored products was about 499 tonnes lower than last year, and 390 tonnes higher than in 2013.

With pears, the amount in storage was at a rather good level at the end of February, with 3,343 tonnes. Looking at the individual varieties, however, one immediately notices that Kaiser Alexander (with 2,442 tonnes) and the other varieties (with 146 tonnes) probably couldn't be sold before the start of the free phase. Conference pears, with 416 tonnes, and Gute Luise, with 339 tonnes, on the other hand, will probably be sold out by that time. The sold amount of stored products for pears, 1,735 tonnes, is 181 tonnes higher than the five-year average.
