US: Mexican mango imports expected to pick up

While shipments of mangos from Mexico this season have lagged behind shipments from previous seasons, it's expected that imports will rise in the coming weeks.

“Volumes are a bit behind Mexico so far, compared to the last two years,” said Gary Clevenger of Freska Produce International. “But, from what we are hearing, they are sure to catch up.” Right now, mostly Ataulfos are coming from Mexico, though shipments of Tommy Atkins mangos are expected soon. Sizes have centered around 16s and 20s, and pricing has remained steady from last week, at around $9.00 or $10.00 per flat.

The labor dispute between port operators and longshoremen on West Coast ports has delayed some South American imports, but with a resolution reached last week, those delays should clear up.
