"Theo Kampschoer: "There is even demand from Spain for French cauliflower"

French cauliflower supply two weeks behind

French cauliflower supply is running over two weeks behind. Exporter Theo Kampschoer from Kampexport says that since the end of December the temperature at night has been around 0 degrees, and during the day the temperature has not exceeded 7/8 degrees, "Cauliflower doesn't grow until the temperature is at least above 8 degrees."

Theo and his son Willem Kampschoer

"They don't let the cauliflower grow until they have size 6, and most are cut when they reach 8. The quality is good right now. There is good demand from all throughout Europe. Prices are around 8.50 Euro per crate for the size 6 cauliflowers, and 7.50-8.50 Euro for the size 8 cauliflowers, depending on the quality," says the exporter.

Theo expects normal supply to return near the end of February. Competition from Spanish products is not an issue right now, "There is even demand from Spain for French cauliflower!"
