Organics continue to grow worldwide

The positive trend in organic products continued in 2013. The global turnover was around 55 billion Euro, the latest figures presented by the Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the International Union of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM) this week show.

The US is the largest market for organic products with a turnover of 24.3 billion Euro in 2013. In second and third place are Germany (7.6 billion Euro) and France (4.4 billion Euro). For the first time in 2013 there were also figures available from China. At the 2.4 billion Euro the country is fourth on the list.

Globally, there were 2 million organic producers in 2013, 5% more in 2012. Most producers are active in India (650,00), followed by Uganda (189,610) and Mexico (169,703).
