UK: Difficult strawberry supply

Overall sales on the UK strawberry market have been relatively good for the last couple of months according to John Gray, from Angus Soft Fruits. Supply, on the other hand has been tricky.

"It has been a struggle on the supply side due the bad weather in Egypt last week and this week in Morocco, also Spain has seen its share of bad weather too."

In November the UK supply moves to a combination of Egyptian, Moroccan and then Spanish strawberries.

"It has been one thing after another as far as strawberry supply is concerned, but even more so on the supply of raspberries, they have been hit quite hard and have been difficult to get since before Christmas," explains Gray.

Angus Soft Fruit are looking forward to when their own strawberry supply starts in May.
