Xenia sets sights on Turkish market

The pear variety Xenia can expect keen interest from both sales and growers. The interest for the Xenia Growers Day, held in Randwijk on Thursday 15 January, exceeded expectations. "We had organised a hall for 65/70 people, but we had to disappoint people," says Eric van der Louw, director of Xenia Europe. In total almost all 55 Dutch and Belgian members of the Xenia growers' union, as well as another 15 interested growers turned up. Van der Louw: "We want to grow to 75-80 members max."

Since the start of the Xenia cultivation in 2008 the area grew to 100 hectares. Van der Louw expects the area, partially based on current orders, to grow to around 250 to 300 hectares in the short term.
