There has been a lot of demand for exotic fruits and vegetables around the Christmas period. Even now it is still going well. This was said by Jan Vermeiren of Exofi. Besides exotics the company also offers other products such as kiwis. "The season of French kiwis runs from November to May and we are satisfied with it. Last year there were some quality problems, but now the quality is great. This is because the weather conditions during the cultivation were better."
Jumbo grapes
Another product that is going well at the moment, are the Peruvian grapes. "We are one of the few here to offer the Jumbo size," indicates Jan. "There is now quite a wide supply of grapes from South Africa and Peru, but they usually only go to size XL. The Jumbo grapes from Peru are popular with our Belgian customers. The white grapes, Sugraone, are around 3 Euro per kilo. 2 Euro per kilo is paid for the Red Globe."
Growing
Exofi now has an assortment of around 150 products. According to Jan the demand for Hass avocado is still growing. "Compared to 2013 our volume doubled again in 2014. Year upon year the consumption of this exotic increases in Europe, ready to eat is especially popular. It really is a persistent trend!"
