Acreage increase for kale after high demands

A focus on healthy eating including juicing and salads has the greens market currently in high demand. Leafy greens have been a main focus vegetable, allowing the price of kale to remain stabilized through supply and demand.

“We have increased the acreage of all leafy greens this year,” explains Ashley Rawl, Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Product Development at WP Rawl. “This increased supply is due to keeping up with the demand of our product. We have several growing locations and partners throughout North America to keep up with demand.”

Various seasons are planned for in the multiple growing locations in order to deter the harsh effects of weather. “Although demand has increased, we do not foresee any potential threats this season. However, as growers we are always at the mercy of Mother Nature,” states Rawl.

WP Rawl plans to expand their lines in 2015 in order to meet higher demands. Products do not rely on genetic modification; instead have been bred using traditional methods. “We stay ahead of trends by conducting a lot of research throughout the year,” states Rawl, “We currently sell organic greens under our Nature’s Greens brand.”
