California table grape growers offer scholarships to field workers

Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 California Table Grape Workers Scholarship Program.

The field worker scholarships, offered on behalf of California’s table grape growers, include up to three $20,000 scholarships to any four-year California college or university and up to four $3,500 scholarships to any junior or community college, or trade school in California.

Field workers employed in the 2014 or 2015 California table grape harvest or their children may apply for these scholarships. Applicants must be high school graduates or high school seniors graduating in 2015.

The application deadline for the field worker scholarships is Friday, January 30, 2015.
Go to the California Table Grape Commission’s website for downloadable applications:
www.grapesfromcalifornia.com/scholarships.php. You can also contact the commission office at 559.447.8350 or scholarships@grapesfromcalifornia.com for hard copies of posters and/or applications.

Last year’s recipients were graduates from high schools in the San Joaquin and Coachella valleys of California, including Thermal, McFarland, Bakersfield and Reedley. The scholarships are being used to help fund studies in various areas including human biology, civil engineering, biochemistry and culinary arts.

For 30 years, California's table grape growers have funded the nation’s first worker-focused scholarship program. The program has awarded over 100 scholarships to field workers and their children from the table grape growing regions in California.
