Germans eating more readymade potato products

The German consumers are eating more and more potato products such as chips, gnocchi, potato gratin and other ready made potato based products, instead of cooked or baked potatoes.

The German AMI market experts estimate the consumption of fresh potato for the year 2013/14 at only 21.8 kg per person annually. Twenty years ago this was twice as much. The decrease of the consumption of fresh potatoes is linked to the beneficent rise of processed and ready made products. In 2013/14 the Germans are an average of 36 kg of these products per person per year. This is 4 kg more than in 2005/06.
