150 million dollar investment

Peru: Lambayeque will construct a port

At least US $150 million will be invested in the construction of the first part of the maritime terminal of Lambayeque, which will generate thousands of jobs and boost exports from that area of the country.

The president of the Regional Government of Lambayeque, Humberto Acuña said that this project was one of his biggest commitments for his second term that begins in January 2015.

Acuña said his administration was coordinating with the Agency for Promotion of Private Investment to initiate the studies to get the necessary financing to execute the port project.

Acuña said he had spoken to President Ollanta Humala, during the inauguration of the Olmos Irrigation Project, to ask for his support in the implementation of the maritime terminal.

"The central government is committed to carrying out this project, be it through public-private investment or a state grant," he said.

He stated that the implementation of the port project included the construction of a dock for the mining sector, and a dock for agricultural exports, fishing and the touristic sector.

"The idea is to assign the concession of this work next year and to begin the construction of the terminal in 2016," he said.

According to the Regional Port Authority, the Marine Terminal of Lambayeque will be built in the district of Puerto Eten, an area of huge potential land and sea.

The new port's structure will with based on the Multiboyas area, 5 kilometres south from the port and that has 7 kilometres of maritime area.
