The agreement with the Jumex Group will benefit 4,000 farmers

Mexico: Jumex will export lime from Guerrero to Europe

The Jumex Group announced the formalization of an agreement with Guerrero producers to begin exporting about 30,000 tons of lime to European markets starting in 2015.

The agreement was achieved thanks to the mediation of the Director of Guerrero's Industrial Trust (FIGUEIN), Julian Lopez Galeana, and it will ensure that 4,000 producers of lime in the entity can market their product at a better price, as they currently only get an average of 1 peso and 20 cents per kilo of citrus, while intermediaries sell it for up to 10 pesos per kilo.

"The producers and Jumex haven't determined a price yet, but we are sure it will be very beneficial for both parties," said the state official.

In 2013, Guerrero produced 75,000 tons of lime, harvested in 6,868 hectares, mainly in the municipalities of Acapulco, Cuajinicuilapa, San Marcos, Florencio Villarreal, and Coyuca de Benitez.

"It's an important step for those dedicated to the production of lime in Guerrero. The agreement we signed with Jumex will allow us to sell more at a better price and, more importantly, we loose less product due to a lack of buyers," said Alfonso Campos Pimentel, representative of the lime producers from Acapulco.

Jose Luis Valdes Busch, CEO of Special Projects of Jumex, expressed the company was glad it had reached an agreement with the producers, as this will allow them to market the citrus in different markets in Europe starting April 2015.
