Xander Rodenburg, Vroegop-Windig:

Increasing demand for fresh cranberries

At Vroegop-Windig, cranberry season is in full swing. Since the supply of these cranberries was delayed, the company allowed the first shipment to be sent by air. Meanwhile, the company is already in the middle of the boat-berries season. "Cranberries are a real autumn product, and they are especially popular during the holidays in wild game dishes. Due to the warm, late autumn, demand has not been too wild, so far," says Xander Rodenburg.

Vroegop-Windig gets deliveries of cranberries until Christmas, after which the season usually ends quite quickly. "Over the years we have built up a good position in the cranberry market. Unfortunately, there were quality problems in recent years with Canadian cranberries, but by completely switching to cultivating in Wisconsin, these problems are a thing of the past. We are now working completely with the Stevens strain of the fruit, this variety produces large and strong berries, "says Xander. "Volumes and prices are comparable to other years."

According to the importers, in recent years, cranberry sales have skyrocketed. "It is a healthy product that suits the conscious consumer of today, who sees it as a real 'Superfood'. You are seeing more and more cranberry juices and dried cranberries as well.. This applies not only to the Netherlands, but also to other countries in Northern and Central Europe, including the UK, Belgium, Germany, Scandinavia, Austria and Switzerland. "
