Ecuador is going to surpass the banana exports record established in 2011
Eduardo Ledesma, executive director of the Association of Banana Exporters said, in an interview with Ecuavisa, that banana exports have reached a remarkably higher level than that recorded in 2013. He also stated that, according to forecasts, Ecuador would have exported over 200 million boxes of bananas by December, thus making more profits than the record established in 2011.
Ledesma said there had been some circumstances that had played an important role in the increase of banana exports, such as the weather conditions that have been much more favourable this year than in the previous two. He also said that Ecuador had the potential for significant growth in the banana sector that was higher than the one its regional competitors, such as Panama and Colombia, had. Additionally, he stated, if the government fulfils its duty to open important new markets for the product, exports in the future could increase even more.
