France expects smaller cauliflower harvest

The cauliflower harvest in France for the 2014/15 season will be smaller than last year, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) (Agricultural market information service) on their website. According to information from Agreste the growing area of 17,200 hectares is 2% smaller than it was last season. It is presumed that the season will produce 285,500 tons less than was produced in the 2013/14 season.

The average harvest volumes in the last quarter of the 2013/14 season were relatively large due to the very mild winter. Thus, export increased while the growers price was well below what it was the year before. In the upcoming season each month the harvest will be smaller than what was expected a year earlier.
