Harold Zondag, Hollandteelt:

"Small packaging could give the sales of coloured carrots and beets a boost"

Hollandteelt from Biddinghuizen is specialised in supplying all colours of carrots and beets, parsnips, root parsley, artichokes and pumpkins, to retail, foodservice and industry. Harold Zondag was already a finalist in the Taste of NL competition in 2012 with a steam bag of five colours of carrot. A growing market is that of small packaging. "In the end it's still a small category that uses these vegetables. Often the product is left for too long and the waste is too high. The turnover speed is a lot higher with small packaging."

According to Harold, Hollandteelt's vegetables are a must for those who are looking for more colour, taste and variation on their plate. "By developing new concepts, which bring out the taste and colour, I want to bring vegetable to peoples' attention positively with Hollandteelt. Our product still has countless sales possibilities, in wholesale, retail or specialities. This is why we are at the AGF Detail," says Harold. "We supply gorgeous products, but they need attention. This is why vacuum packaging is very interesting for us, as well as from the view of shelf life."

Germany, France and Scandinavia are the main export markets for Hollandteelt. The export to Germany is provided by PeDe in Venlo. "These vegetables are already well known in Scandinavia and France is already reasonably self sufficient, but we can fill some spaces here and there. In Germany there are a lot more possibilities, especially with convenience products for the wok, microwave or barbecue and such, but this market has to be mined. We supply the packaging desired by the customer. I want to build up a good brand with a wide assortment. All products that are grown by us with passion and that stand our in the shop or restaurant."
