Austrian potato market: harvesting is slow

The harvest for the Austrian potato growers is going slowly at the moment due to the weather conditions. After the reasonably dry weekend, when people were able harvest from the lighter ground, rain has been predicted for the next few days again. However, the available supply is still more than sufficient, said the marketing department of the Agricultural Trade Niederösterreich. The sale of the early varieties is now finished and the main varieties expect a good average harvest. The sales situation is still satisfactory. Running offers in the Austrian food trade are ensuring higher sales. Export is also still possible when there are fitting price concessions.

The growers' prices stabilised on last week's level. For medium large between 8 and 10 Euro per 100 kg was paid in the east of Austria and in Steiermark. Overly large potatoes are still being sold at between 3 to 6 Euro per 100 kg. In the state of Oberösterreich the price for solid peel potatoes is stable at 12 Euro per 100 kg.

In Germany the trade of consumption potatoes is still very calm. The harvest yields are reportedly a little above average. The supply is still described as more than sufficient and often exceeds the slight demand. Offers in the trade are only temporarily raising sales. Growers' prices between 8 and 11 Euro per 100 kg were mentioned here at the beginning of the week.
