Mexico seeks to advance protocol in exporting soft fruit to China

This week, a delegation from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico (SAGARPA) will travel to China to advance on the development of a protocol that allows the export of Mexican soft fruits to that country.

The visit was announced as part of the III International Food Health Forum developed in the Aztec country, where Hugo Fragoso Sanchez, CEO of Agrifood Safety, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DGIAAP), said they expected to have the protocol that would allow Mexico to export blackberry, blueberry and raspberry to China ready by the end this year.

It is worth noting that in March 2014 a delegation with officials from the General Administration of Quarantine, Inspection and Quality Supervision of China (AQSIQ) visited orchards and packing facilities of red fruit in the states of Michoacan and Jalisco.

This visit was intended to clarify the risk analysis and, following it, bilaterally agree on the phytosanitary protocol for the export of blackberry, raspberry and blueberry.

At that time, Feng Chunguang, an official from the AQSIQ said that, in general terms, the Mexican berry production system met their country's health and safety requirements.
