Spain: Magrama expands withdrawal of peaches and nectarines for juicing by 3,500 t

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama) has increased the maximum volume of peaches and nectarines that may be withdrawn from the market for processing into juice by 3,500 tonnes, reaching a total of 13,500 tonnes. This exceptional measure was approved in late July to alleviate the market's difficulties caused by the impact of the Russian ban on food products from the European Union.

The withdrawal period has also been extended from 31 August to 30 September, to coincide with the deadline for the application of exceptional measures under EU regulations.

After the withdrawal, producers will supply, as part of a Community regulation, peaches and nectarines to charities, which in turn will sign contracts with the juice and nectar industry for their processing.

In the case of apples and pears, the Ministry of Agriculture will immediately enforce the same measures was a disturbance to be detected in the markets for these products, thus fulfilling the Government's commitment to the sector and the autonomous regions.
