"Richar Kruijer (Gardeners Interest): "A little more demand in cabbage market"
The schools have started again. We hope that because of this the demand is going to increase and we can make a better price. Right now the demand is mainly coming out of Western Europe, Israel and Dubai," says Richard. According to the trader the Danish cabbage acreage has slightly declined and in place more red cabbage is being grown. "The early cabbage was quite early and there is a lot of it. The products are growing fast and right now there is enough available. The stored cabbage is also looking good, but it is too early to say how good."
Russia
Although right now there is no Dutch cabbage going to Russia, the indirect impacts of the boycott are still being felt. "Last year Russia was on the market early - in the beginning of the year - and a lot of cabbage was exported to Russia. At first it looked very bad, but it has actually been better than expected. If Russia does not come onto the market, we will have a problem. But a lot can happen in a few months."
