Italy: Too early to assess damage caused by Russian ban, Massimo Bragotto (La Linea Verde) says

Sales Manager, Massimo Bragotto, of La Linea Verde, talks about the Russian ban.

"Such a ban is a problem not only for our company, but for many others that believed Russia to be an important strategic market. It's still to early to asses the damage, as the market over there is not ripe, it is still growing" explains the manager.

La Linea Verde made a lot of investments in order to export to Russia. "We have been very busy the past two years and we are afraid it is an effort that won't be repaid."

"On the one hand, the ban affects our long-term development plans, on the other hand, it endangers the short-term relationship with local buyers. I hope a solution will be found soon, but I'm not sure the situation will go back to being the way it was right away."

The company boasts a range of highly innovative products difficult to substitute, so much so that some products, for example smoothies, ready-to-eat soups and mixed salads can still be exported. "That's right, but such products only represent one tenth of our pre-ban turnover. We will attend World Food Moscow (Hall 2 / Room 3), the biggest fair of the sector. If possible we want to find alternative ways to supply our buyers."

"Our Russian partner, Vegetoria, is also being damaged by the situation, as it invested money in technologies and human resources especially in order to work with us. This ban risks ruining relationships that took us a lot of time to build."
