Spain: Strengthening of export promotions in wake of Russian ban

A significant group of leading companies in the horticultural sector will participate in the coming weeks in the two major fairs to be held in Hong Kong, China, from 3 to 5 September, and in Bombay, India, from 24 to 26 September.

In Spain, FEPEX and IFEMA have strengthened the promotion of Fruit Attraction, which will take place from 15 to 17 October, among buyers in China, India and Brazil. The goal is to increase Spanish sales to non-European countries, which currently only account for 3% of total exports, amounting to 11.800 million tonnes, worth 10,700 million Euro, running a comprehensive program that prioritises the urgent introduction of market access protocols and promotion in those countries.

Furthermore, FEPEX said yesterday to the secretary general of Agriculture that the European Commission is underestimating the severity of the crisis caused by the Russian Federation's import ban and, therefore, insufficient measures are being taken, both in terms of scope or intervention price levels, as well as in the withdrawal of surpluses with which it is intended to establish a safety net and restore balance to the markets.
