GEO invests 700,000 Euros in foil machine for cucumbers

GEO, the Austrian vegetable growers organization, has invested around 700,000 Euro in a new foil machine for packaging cucumbers in Wallern, Austrian website orf.at reports. A retail chain wants to receive the cucumbers mainly packaged, after all.

The new foil machine was built by employees of vegetable trader Perlinger. It consists of three main components that come from different countries - namely Italy, Spain and Germany. Not a lot of personnel is needed to operate the machine.

On location, the cucumbers' packaging is checked, to see if it's done properly. If that's not the case, the foil is removed and replaced. Between 25 and 30 lorries leave the company each day. The vegetables, packaged at the customer's request, are then delivered to Vorarlberg. "This sophisticated logistic operation is a big challenge. Every morning, a plan is made for it," says vegetable trader Werner Perlinger. Every day, 30,000 crates with packaged produce leaves the company.
