Good asparagus and strawberry harvest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The Bureau for statistics from the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has made known the first numbers for the asparagus and strawberry harvest for this year, reports the German website Proplanta.de. According to the numbers, 237 hectares of asparagus were pulled.

With an average yield of 4,000 kg per hectare and a total harvest volume of 953 tons, asparagus growers reached a very good result. The estimated yield per hectare lies around 9% higher than last year.

With the strawberry harvest, that started relatively early this year, there was talk of a total harvest volume of 7,800 tons. The growing area amounted to 503 hectares. The estimated yield per hectare comes to 15,500 kg and exceeds the previous record from 2009 of 14,600 kg per hectare. This is why the yield per hectare in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is well above the average for Germany.
