French strawberry season comparable to last year

The 2014 strawberry production started earlier than in 2013 but has the same standards as previous years. The 2014 harvest is in the declining stages and only the Pays de Loire (where open air production is predominant) is still in full production.

Harvested quantity should reach 56,300 tons, slightly higher than that of 2013. Aquitaine remains the leading production region with 900 ha and the best national yield (22,729 tons).

Prices of different varieties at the start of the campaign were similar than 2013. They then slipped towards the 5-year average until the start of June. Now, they have decreased, with the gariguette seeing a strong decrease.
