The apple harvest in the Sierra de Arteaga, which is expected to amount to 1.2 million cases and generate one thousand jobs in the next three months, starts in the first week of August, said José de Jesus Duran Flores.
The mayor of Arteaga expressed his optimism about the fruit's quality, as recent rains in the region will allow the apples to strengthen and have a good size.
Duran Flores added that the conditions were given to them for a good price in the market, since there was a 20 percent decrease in the production in Chihuahua and Arteaga's production was going to have a good quality.
The recent rains in the Sierra de Arteaga, he said, were very helpful because the trees had been able to absorb more water the month prior to harvest so they would yield better fruit sizes.
"The maturation stage is coming to an end so the rains are very important. Producers tell me that it's the best apple ever, that sizes are very good because the rains have favoured the production, "he said.
The mayor said that several buyers from the Federal District had already approached producers and that they would have good prices, especially because of the quality of the fruit and the 20 decrease in the production of Chihuahua.
