Belgium: Walloon potato acreage increased 12%

The Walloon data has just been released. The acreage is of 1,005 ha, compared to the 897 of 2013. Therefore, there is an increase of 108 ha, which is 12.0%. In Flanders, a total of 1,380 ha were harvested, compared to 1,266 ha in 2013, i.e. an increase of 114 ha (+ 9.0%). For the whole of Belgium, there is an increase of 222 ha (10.3%), reaching an area of 2163 ha. The main varieties grown in Belgium are the Bintje (631 ha, 622 ha in 2013), Spunta (253 ha, 208 in 2013), Lady Rosetta (151 ha, compared with 90 ha in 2013), Kennebec (132 ha, 136 hectares last year) and Fontane (128 ha, 116 in 2013).
