Weight problem with pre-wrapped fruit and vegetables in France

People are being encouraged to consume seasonal fruit and vegetables, yet a journalist client at Casino has uncovered a weight-related issue.

In the Casino shop, 2 packets of carrots that claimed to weigh 1kg were in fact only 795g and 835g. The same problem was remarked concerning 1.5kg of potatoes that really weighed 1.315kg.

Obviously, as soon as the unhappy journalist posted the video online, the hypermarket reacted immediately. They carried out a control over their 11,000 sites and did not uncover any other anomalies.

The client says that he returned to the store later to find that many vegetables had disappeared from the shelves, which proves that Casino had reacted to the situation.

The Director General of Consumption and Fraud says that such errors are not rare. In 2012, amongst the 1,000 controls carried out on the fruit and vegetable sections, 8% had errors.

This figure dropped to 4.2% after controls in 2013, but errors between the weight printed and the actual weight still exist.
