Morocco to increase citrus exports to sub-Saharan Africa

Moroccan citrus fruit producers believe in a possible development of their activities in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2012 the region only represented 3% of the Kingdom's citrus exports, but a development has been remarked (70% increase in exports to Sub-Saharan Africa between 2009-2013).

With a population of 910 million and an average 5.6% growth rate in 2013, sub-Saharan Africa is a strategic region for Morocco to increase their citrus exports to.

The primary difficulty is the impact of the informal sector as well as a lack of bilateral agreements, inadequate transport infrastructures and customs constraints leading to higher costs and slow procedures. Mauritania, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso are Morocco's main outlets in the region.
